Immerse Yourself in Spanish Culture with Our Weekly Activities
The best way to learn a language is not just by taking a course but by fully immersing yourself in the culture and sharing experiences with your peers and teachers. At Escuela Elcano in Alicante, we organize a wide range of cultural and leisure activities to help you dive into Spanish language and culture in a fun and engaging way.
Every week, we prepare a varied cultural program with all kinds of activities, including cooking classes, hiking, excursions, and language exchanges. You have many options to choose from, so you can join the ones you like best. You’ll not only learn and practice the language but also meet people from different countries and cultures. You’ll make the most of your experience in Alicante!
So, what are these activities? Here are some of them and the experiences our students enjoy every week:
1. Gastronomy
As you probably know, Spanish food, and especially in Alicante, is famous for its variety and rich traditions. This is your chance to learn all about it and, of course, taste it!
Cooking Workshops Let’s get cooking! Have you ever wanted to make classic dishes like tortilla de patatas or paella? Now’s your chance! Our teachers will show you some of the most popular Spanish recipes step-by-step. You’ll cook alongside your classmates and practice your Spanish while you learn about different dishes from various Spanish regions.
Tapas Tour Let’s go for tapas! One of our best activities is a tour of different bars and restaurants in the center of Alicante to taste the best tapas. Tapas, practicing Spanish, and good company. What could be better?
2. Language Exchange
Do you want to practice your conversation skills in a fun way and meet more people from all over the world? This activity is for you. The most effective way to learn and improve your Spanish is to speak it. In these activities, we’ll play games and do communication exercises to help you practice and learn about the languages and cultures of your classmates. The goal is to create a comfortable and friendly environment for Spanish practice and cultural exchange. All levels are welcome, so sign up!
3. Excursions
In Alicante, we’re lucky to have a huge number of incredible places, spectacular landscapes, and historical sites to visit. That’s why every week we organize excursions so you don’t miss any of them.
Hike to Serra Grossa Are you ready for a little adventure? Let’s go hiking! You’ll climb the mountain with your teachers and classmates and enjoy nature and fresh air in one of the region’s most amazing natural areas.
Visit to Villajoyosa Villajoyosa is one of the most beautiful coastal towns in the Alicante region, with spectacular scenery and charming, colorful streets. We’ll stroll through the harbor, see the lovely houses and streets, and more. We also organize visits to the Valor Chocolate Museum and its factory, which is over 130 years old and makes some of the best chocolate you’ll ever taste.
Climb to Santa Bárbara Castle One of the most iconic landmarks of our city, it’s always a good time to visit Santa Bárbara Castle in the center of Alicante. On the way up, you can learn many interesting facts about this place and, once at the top, enjoy a wonderful view of the harbor and the entire city.
4. Sports Activities
Salsa Classes Take this opportunity to learn to move like a true Latino. You don’t need any prior knowledge, just the desire to have a good time. Each week will feature different dance classes, such as salsa, bachata, or even urban dances!
Beach Volleyball Tournament One of Alicante’s biggest attractions is the beach, just a 5-minute walk from the city center and our school. In this fun activity, you can communicate in Spanish in a different context and have a great time playing volleyball with your classmates. We can also organize a picnic, games on the sand, and much more!
